Nintendo charges deals history with the latest Pokémon games on the Control console

November 28, 2022: On Thursday, Nintendo said its latest Pokémon games had formed a deals record in the Japanese gaming business as it keeps pumping out blockbusters after the crucial holiday season.

The Kyoto, Japan-headquartered firm declared sales of the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet plays for the Nintendo Switch, passing 10 million units in the coming three days since the global launch on November 18.

That is the increased level of sales for a game’s beginning in Nintendo’s whole record.

Nintendo’s Pokémon comes after Splatoon 3 hit a domestic sales record in Japan, in signs the gaming company is hitting the mark with players ahead of the holidays.

Pokémon is Nintendo’s most famous and longest-running franchise. Nintendo breathed a recent life into the series by releasing Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield three years and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in the previous year.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are huge as they are open-world games which allow players to explore the game environment without linearly completing missions.

The video games industry experienced a boom during the Covid-19 pandemic as people were stuck at home in lockdowns. But as economies are opening again, the industry has normalized, which has weighed on video game firms, including Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.

“With the recent Pokémon, Nintendo is achieving a rare feat among all video game firms, which scored two blockbusters in 2022 for the industry,” Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based consultancy Kantan Games, stated.

“Sure, Pokémon is always a safe bet, but the recent title has exceeded expectations, just as Splatoon 3 made it look.”

Investors back up Nintendo thanks to its current blockbusters. The company’s shares are up over 11% this year, outperforming Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index. The previous month, Nintendo carried a 10-for-1 stock split, boosting sentiment.

Nintendo has a lot of games. Toto anticipates The Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom, slating the release in May, to be the company’s coming major hit.

But Nintendo is not just one gaming goliath decisively entering the holiday season.
