Netflix disclosed a ‘Stranger Things’ set play is arriving in the West End of London

March 2, 2023: On Wednesday, a new “Stranger Things” stage spinoff which comes to London’s West End later, Netflix reported.

“Stranger Things, The First Shadow,” an adaptation of the famous science fiction show, will premiere at the Phoenix Theatre as the streaming firm’s first live stage production.

The play will be ready in 1959 in the fictional place of Hawkins, Indiana, happening over two decades before the show’s first scene. In a press release, Netflix said it would include a handful of the series’ main characters, which include the town’s police chief, Jim Hopper, and Joyce Byers’ boyfriend, Bob Newby.

The original story was stated by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry; the play was written by Trefry and will be managed by Stephen Daldry, with Justin Martin, the co-director. Thorne also wrote the stage act for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” Sonia Friedman Productions will produce it.

“You will meet endearing recent characters, and very familiar ones, on a journey into the previous that sets the groundwork for the upcoming ‘Stranger Things,'” Matt and Ross Duffer stated.

The “Stranger Things” series began in 2016 and has been one of the ongoing platform’s most famous shows. Its fourth season tops Netflix’s most-demanded English TV list with 1.35 billion hours viewed.

In Netflix’s most recent shareholder letter, the firm said subscribers watched more hang cliff seasons and sequels in the previous year than in any year before it. Netflix blew away subscriber anticipation for the fourth quarter, which adds 7.66 million paid subscribers during the fourth quarter.

The play joins many in-person events inspired by Netflix premiers and shows, which include the immersive multi-city “Stranger Things, The Experience.” Other shows such as balls with “Bridgerton” themes and an escape room lives experience based on “Glass Onion, A Knives Out Mystery.”

Netflix is also gaining traction in the comedy type with a live standup starring Chris Rock for March 4, during which he will discuss Will Smith’s Oscar slap.

Passes or tickets for “Stranger Things, The First Shadow” is anticipated to go on the deal in the spring.
