After the agreement ended, Harry and Meghan were referred to as ‘grifters’ by the Spotify’s head of Podcasts

June 21, 2023: Spotify director Bill Simmons defined Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, as “grifters” after the pair’s partnership with the streaming platform came to a premature stop on Friday.

The association with Harry and Meghan’s production company Archewell Audio, first written in Dec. 2020, was initially described by Spotify as a “multiyear partnership,” with the promise of delivering “podcasts that will inspire.”

Regardless, the collaborative efforts have resulted in just one 12-episode series of the podcast “Archetypes,” which saw Meghan discuss notable guests, which including Serena Williams and Mariah Carey.

The agreement was widely reported to be worth around $20 million.

“Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made jointly,” Spotify and Archewell Audio said in a joint statement.

This isn’t the first time Bill, Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetization, has disparaged the former working royals, saying he was “mortified” to share the Spotify platform with Harry.

“Shoot this guy to the sun; I’m so tired of this guy,” Simmons said on his self-titled podcast in January.

Simmons had previously anchored in hot water for voicing contentious views, which included in 2014 when ESPN broke him over comments about a domestic brutality case.
