Walgreens Boots Alliance has named veteran healthcare executive Tim Wentworth, as the company’s next chief executive. Wentworth is the former CEO of Express Scripts, the nation’s largest pharmacy benefits management company, acquired by Cigna in 2018. He stayed on and served as chief of Cigna’s health services before retiring at the end of 2021.
Wentworth will succeed Stefano Pessina, who has been CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance since 2014. Pessina will become executive chairman of the board.
Wentworth’s appointment comes as Walgreens Boots Alliance faces several challenges, including a slowdown in sales growth and increased competition from online retailers. The company is also trying to expand its role in healthcare, and Wentworth is seen as someone who can help the company achieve that goal.
Wentworth is a well-respected leader in the healthcare industry. He is known for his expertise in pharmacy benefits management and his ability to manage complex organizations. He is also a strong advocate for value-based healthcare.
Wentworth is expected to start his new role as CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance in October 2023.
