January 10, 2023: -On Sunday, Prince Harry will deliver one more highly publicized blow to Britain’s royal family in a pair of TV interviews two days before publishing his much-anticipated memoir.
In discussion with Tom Bradby, a news presenter at British broadcaster ITV, and with Anderson Cooper on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Harry is anticipated to shed light on the acrimonious royal split.
Timed coinciding with the release of his autobiography, “Spare,” trailers from both interviews show Harry blaming his family for fueling negative news coverage regarding him and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
In conversation with Cooper, which comes on air on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET, Harry stated he has spoken out publicly, “Every single time I’ve tried to do it differently, there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against my wife and me.”
He adds that statements were not made to support his family from a few media coverage, and “becoming a point when silence is betrayal.”
Harry said his family was “briefing the press” in the interview with Bradby, airing Sunday on Britain’s ITV1 channel and its streaming platform, ITVX, at 9 p.m. local time.
“There’s a lot that can happen amid now and then. But you’re aware, and the door is always open. The hop is in their court,” he says when asked whether he will attend. “I hope they will sit down and talk about it.”
He added that he still believes in the British monarchy but doesn’t know what role he would play in its future.
The interviews are coming after details of Harry’s highly expected memoir, “Spare,” emerged first in advance copies and then following it mistakenly went on sale in Spain, despite tight security around its publication. NBC News has experienced and translated extracts of a Spanish-language version of the book.
In the memoir, Harry blames his brother for physically attacking him during an argument more than his marriage to Meghan. He also stated his use of drugs and helped dress as a Nazi at a 2005 costume party for which he was criticized.
On Friday, he also faced criticism for his claim in the book that he murdered 25 “enemy combatants” in Afghanistan when he was serving two tours with the British army.
The two first experience their side of the story in their bombshell talk show with media mogul Oprah Winfrey, which accuses members of the family of racism.
William refused that the family was racist in public opinion at the time, and the palace added that the allegations were “concerning” and that “while a few recollections may differ, they are taken wisely and will be addressed by the privately.”
