December 14, 2022: -On Tuesday, the electric Ford F-150 Lightning was known as MotorTrend’s 2023 truck of the year, which tops traditional pickups with combustion engines from General Motors, Stellantis and Toyota Motor.

The prestigious name and accompanying “Golden Caliper” award is highly sought by automakers globally every year. They are used for advertising vehicles and are viewed as third-party validation of a new car.

The F-150 Lightning is pivotal for Ford Motor and the U.S. automotive business. It’s the initial mass-market electric pickup truck for mainstream buyers and is widely witnessed as a test of widespread EV adoption. The F-Series, including the electric and traditional versions of the car, has also been the best-selling car in the U.S. for decades.

MotorTrend noted Lightning’s overall performance, safety and importance in appealing to traditional pickup consumers among the reasons for the recognition.

“While some cars change the world by being radically not same, others, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, transfer it by being different where it counts and similar where it helps,” MotorTrend stated in a press release.

This is the next-consecutive year an all-electric truck has come over the award, after the Rivian R1T a year ago. But it’s the first electric vehicle to get unanimous support from the judges, MotorTrend said.

Other finalists for MotorTrend’s truck were the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2023 Ram 2500 and 2022 Toyota Tundra, 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.

MotorTrend’s truck of the year after the publication named the Genesis G90 its 2023 car this year, and the electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 was its 2023 SUV.
